I love books. And music. And if you made me choose? Well, that might just prove impossible for me. So, when I find the perfect blend of the two, I have been known to do a little happy dance.

(Wait. I'm sure you know HOW...)
As for "why", I'll tell you. Our Moms' blog, The Music Mamas, is just for grown up music. But, the nice PR and Record Company Folks kept sending kids' music, too! Since not ALL kids are ready to rock at the same age, we figured our Moms should let us check it out and then share it with you. (At least the stuff that doesn't make our ears bleed...) Love, The Music Minis

Y’know, we get lots of things from PR folks here at Music Mama Media. Sometimes CDs come with detailed press kits and very courteous letters; sometimes we get a link to a MySpace page in an email that’s worded as if we should be grateful to give an obscure garage band some free publicity. The latter doesn’t bother me – as I watch it float lazily into the “Recycle Bin” on my desktop, I am reminded that this world is filled with all sorts of people. Some have manners and talent, some have neither. Makes me glad that I get to choose the kind that I surround myself with; that I support. THIS, my friends, is just a small part of the reason that Kindie Alt/Folk Rocker Frances England should TOTALLY be my new best friend.
Lucas Cruikshank, better known to your kids as Fred Figglehorn of YouTube and Nickelodeon fame, recently released his second CD, Who’s Ready to Party? It follows the Nick premiere of Fred: The Movie, which was seen by 7.6 million viewers, including my soon-to-be-9-year-old, on its first weekend.

One day my son came home from school and was telling me about this awesome movie he saw in music class; where these people were just in the street running around (a novelty), picking up any old trashy object (a no-no) and making music with it.
It clicked. “Did you watch STOMP! in music class today?” Indeed he did.

I sometimes joke that my daughter has been raised by wolves. She’s a wild child in many senses of the word, even at the tender age of six. One of the amazing things about this little one is her love for country and bluegrass – music truly soothes this savage little beast, and when she happens upon something bluegrassy (“cowgirl music,” as she calls it) in my collection, she’ll run off to her room with it, slap the CD into her pink Hello Kitty CD player and listen to it until it’s rendered inoperable by the inevitable sticky fingerprints and scratches.
When she got hold of the Sweet Songs CD, it quickly moved into high rotation (edging out the mix CD made for her by daddy – no small feat). And it’s worthy of the position for many reasons.

So, if you’re like me, you have a ridiculous amount of photos of your child(ren). Thanks to the wonderful digital age in which we live, there seems to always be some gadget at the ready to capture those special moments. Gone are the days of our youth when it was normally an “event” that brought out the Polaroid with the Flash Bar, and we had to suffer the ignominy of the awkward family pose. But…what do you DO with all these pics? Well – I set mine to music!
Y’know…I really don’t recall hearing any music that would in any way be construed as “Kiddie Tunes” when I was a child – at least, not at home. In thinking about this, I asked myself the question: What exactly IS “kid’s music”?
When you have a Music Mama I guess it’s a given that you, as the Music Mini, will also love music. Such is the case with my small people. At least this is true in my family, my girls, ages 7 & 3, are as much fans of music as I am. Recently, thanks to the good folks at Dream Jam Productions we were able to discover another awesome band that my kids love: The Dream Jam Band.
